Hypothetical: You are an atheist and are sitting out back on your porch enjoying a fine summer evening. The sun has just set and a large, beautiful moon is high in the sky. Suddenly, to one side of the moon and as large, appears a head-and-shoulders of an ancient-looking man, just like the stereotypical depiction of God the Father you see in Medieval art: long, white hair and beard; halo; etc. His hand appears out of nowhere and grabs the Earth, stopping it; yet no one dies, no earthquakes or any damage one would expect from the Earth suddenly stopping. He then starts the Earth back up (again, no damage) and you and everyone on Earth hear in your mind "So that you may believe" in your native language. He then fades from view. Scientists later report that the rest of the Universe now appears to be 30 seconds "ahead" of where we should be.
As an atheist, your first thought might be: "Damn, I guess I gotta go get a religion somewhere" because there's now no doubt God exists (or at the very least a vastly superior alien race, but let's exclude that for now). I don't believe this would ever happen. Why? Is it because I don't believe in God; no, I do believe. It's because I believe God gave us Free Will to choose whether to believe in Him, I believe that is the very definition of Faith. "So that you may believe" in fact is actually "So that you have no choice but to believe" which would negate the very gift that makes Faith possible: Free Will.

The epic tale of "The Boy Who Cried Wolf" has a moral to the story: at the end, after crying "wolf!" falsely and laughing at the woodsmen who comes to "save him", the wolf really does appear and now the woodsmen don't respond to his cries for help. We are seeing that in today's society: these hyperventilating, mouth-frothing, extremists have been screaming that it's "the end of democracy" or "everyone's a racist, bigot, -phobe, (insert whatever here)", or "the climate is going to implode in 12 years" are in for a rude awakening. The wolf is November 8th.
